If you’re confused by the world of ACOTAR, You’re not alone.
Every time I bring up my all-time favorite book series I get asked the same three things; what it is about, how many book are in the series, and what the actual hell is a fae? Below are all the answers to the most commonly asked ACOTAR questions.
Don’t worry, all of these questions and answers will be as spoiler free as possible, so feel free to share this with that family member you sat next to during thanksgiving that couldn’t wrap their heads around the word ‘Suriel”.
How many books are in the series? / What order do you read them in?
There are currently five books within the series. Sarah J mass announced that she is currently writing the sixth book. It has not been announced if the sixth book is the final one or not.
The reading order is:
A Court of Thorns and Roses
A Court of Mist and Fury

A Court of Silver Flames.
What are the books about?
In the simplest terms, ACOTAR is a romance fantasy series, AKA a romantasy series. The first four books follow a young woman named Feyre, who ends up on the other side of the wall where the fae live. Feyre meets all kinds of creatures, enemies, friends, and lovers throughout the series.
Book 5, ACOSF, is still a considered apart of the original ACOTAR books, however, it mostly follows Feyre’s older sister, Nesta, instead. Books 6, which is currently being written as of 2023, is rumored to be about Elaine, Feyre’s other sister.
What is the Archeron sibling order?
Although it may be difficult to believe , Feyre is the youngest sister. The birth order is Nesta, Elaine, and then Feyre. Feyre being the youngest and her family’s caretaker changes the way we view her character. We feel more sympathy for her, but also perceive her as stronger than most, thanks to this switch up in caretaking roles.
Now what we have all been waiting for; What the actual hell is a fae?
A fae is a magical creature, something close to a fairy. However they are different. Fairies are considered small mythical creatures similar to pixies or something resembling Tinker bell. A Fae is a powerful and built mythical creature often sporting pointy ears. They are more similar to Gods than they are to fairies. Fae have been found in folklores from European cultures and are often described as more human like.
