The Top 5 Songs in my ACOTAR Playlists
Physically I am at the gym listening to music, Mentally I’m in Prythian.
I have over 180 Spotify playlists. Yes, 180. I am one of those people that HAVE TO make a playlist to go with my current read. There is nothing worse than reading a book and being distracted by the surrounding sounds of your boss yelling at you to put the book down and get to work. Kidding, kind of. I just want to be as immersed as possible.
The songs will be listed in chronological order, starting with book one and ending with five. Now let’s open the door to the world of high fae love triangles with our ear buds.
1. “Dandelions”- Ruth B.
Imagine “Dandelions” playing during a montage of Feyre and Tamlin running around the Spring Court. It perfectly fits book one, A Court of Thorns and Roses, with lyrics like “Cause I’m in a field of Dandelions/ whishing on everyone that you’d be mine” (Ruth B). It’s impossible not to imagine the two of them locking eyes while laying in a field with a gentle spring breeze blowing through, when this song is playing.
2. “Till it Happens to You”- Lady Gaga
Okay Tamlin Haters, this one is for you. Towards the end of book one, beginning of book two, Feyre expresses how alone she feels after experiencing the traumas under the mountain. Gaga captures this lonesomeness perfectly with this line, “Till you’re standing in my shoes/ I don’t wanna hear nothing from you” (Gaga). Did you hear that, Tamlin? We don’t want to hear NOTHING.
3. “Ivy”- Taylor Swift
Okay fellow ‘Swifties’, STAY CALM, but Taylor wrote the anthem for ACOMAF. Book two’s entire plot is basically written in “Ivy”. The lyrics hit major points including the ivy like tattoo Feyre receives from Rhysand, Rhysand ruining Feyre’s wedding, and Feyre’s guilt for her blossoming feelings for Rhysand. I’ll just drop the most damning lyrics here:
“My pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand/
Taking mine, but it's been promised to another/
Oh, I can't/
Stop you putting roots in my dreamland/
My house of stone, your ivy grows/
And now I'm covered” (Swift).
4. “Foreigner’s God”- Hozier
Toward the end of book two and into book three, Feyre tricks Tamlin into letting her live in the Spring Court. You could almost say that in ACOWAR Feyre is following a foreign God. I most definitely winked while writing that. Feyre’s character in ACOWAR is peak badass, therefore she needs to be hyped up to lyrics like, “She moved with shameless wonder” (Hozier).
5. “New Skin”- VÉRITÉ
Within the last two books, Feyre’s sisters are dealing with the concept that they have been forced into the cauldron, causing them to become fae. Nesta, the oldest, struggles the most in ACOSF. “New Skin” would definitely be on the top of Nesta’s sad girl playlist with a chorus like this one:
“I got new love, new skin/
To wrap myself in/
New lows, new sins/
To lose myself in” (VÉRITÉ).
No matter where you’re at, whether it be the gym or hiding in the supply closet at work to get those last few chapters in, these songs will transport you into the world of ACOTAR.
